Your details

Measure consistently. Stand upright without shoes for height. Keep the tape horizontal and snug without compressing skin. Relax your abdomen, breathe out normally, and repeat the measurement. The RFM and waist-to-height tools use different waist landmarks.

Waist-to-height ratio

0.50

Increased central adiposity

Half your height is 85.0 cm. For adults with BMI below 35, the NICE classification changes at ratios of 0.5 and 0.6. This is screening context, not a diagnosis.

These adult screening estimates do not apply during pregnancy. Body composition, ancestry, age, medical history, and measurement technique can change how a result should be interpreted.

How this tool works

Divide waist circumference by height using the same unit. Measure the waist midway between the lowest ribs and top of the hips after a normal exhalation. This differs from the waist landmark used by the RFM body-fat tool.

For adults with BMI below 35, NICE defines ratios of 0.4 to below 0.5 as no increased central adiposity, 0.5 to below 0.6 as increased, and 0.6 or more as high. Ratios below 0.4 are outside these published categories. The calculator shows the ratio without applying categories at BMI 35 or above.

Is half my height a personal medical target?
