Short-term body weight is strongly affected by water, glycogen, digestion, sodium, and menstrual-cycle changes. Use at least 14–28 consistent entries and treat the range as a calibration aid, not a prescription. This tool is for adults and is not appropriate during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or eating-disorder recovery.

How this tool works

The tool averages the earliest and most recent weight entries rather than comparing two isolated measurements. It converts the change into a weekly trend and compares that trend with the average calorie intake entered for the same period.

The observed maintenance result uses a short-window energy-balance approximation and intentionally displays a broad range. Water, glycogen, digestion, sodium, incomplete logging, and normal adaptation can all make a short period look different from the longer-term trend.

The goal timeline extends the recent rate only when it is moving toward the entered goal. It is shown as a range because weight change is not linear and the underlying inputs will change over time.

Frequently asked questions

How many weigh-ins should I use?

Use at least 14–28 morning measurements collected under similar conditions. More data generally makes water-related noise less influential.

Is observed maintenance more accurate than a TDEE equation?

It can add useful personal context, but it depends on complete intake logging and a long enough weight trend. Use it alongside—not as a replacement for—professional guidance or validated clinical models.

Why does the tool show a range instead of one goal date?

Body weight does not change at a constant rate. A date range better reflects the uncertainty in both the recent trend and future behavior.
